Chess boxing – the ultimate competition testing both brains and brawn.

A standard chess boxing match starts with a 4 minute chess round, followed by a three minute round of boxing. This is followed again by alternating rounds of chess and boxing. Contestants can win the match by either achieving a checkmate, or knocking their opponent out during a boxing round.

The sport was first mentioned by the cartoonist Enki Bilal in 1992, but it wasn’t until 2005 before the first championship match took place in Berlin.
